The origins of the league of darkness
Ever since the 12th Century, man has told tale of a legendary being that rules the waves. The name of the Kraken therefore is no stranger to those who sail the seven seas.
Legend has it, that from the depths of the Norwegian sea rose a cephalopod-like creature so powerful, that the once intrepid sailors of the Nordics feared setting sail for dread of becoming the mighty beast's next victim. Before long, some of the regions finest and bravest seamen, explorers and naturalists would form an alliance; they would be known only as 'Morkets Forbund' or in English, 'The League of Darkness'.
The alliance's sole purpose was to hunt and destroy the creature that they called 'the Kraken' to make the once prosperous seas, safe again. Shrouded in secrecy, the League of Darkness, funded by some of the wealthiest sailors and explorers in Norway, dedicated their very existence to exterminating the creature that they so feared. Often this would mean seeking the Kraken in places so remote and dark that teams of hunters would not return.
For centuries, the alliance operated in the shadows, generations of men and women committed to ending the Beast. But to their folly, this objective would not be attainable, for the Beast cannot be tamed or destroyed by mortal men. Over the past 350 years, there has been no record, or in fact, evidence of the existence of the League – it is commonly thought either the last brave souls met their match and that was the end of the alliance…
…little do they know. Welcome courageous explorer to the League of Darkness. There’s no turning back now, into the darkness you must continue in seek of the mighty KRAKEN! Only now, we do not seek to destroy, now we honour the power of the true ruler of the seas.
